Signs That You Need to Get Your Pool Liner Replaced

Signs That You Need to Get Your Pool Liner Replaced

Watch out for these signs, and you’ll know when your pool liner is ready to be replaced.

Do you know how long a pool liner is supposed to last? In addition, do you know when you need to get your pool liner replaced? These are commonly asked questions among pool owners because pool liner replacements are among the largest and most common maintenance expenses you’ll have to handle when owning a pool.

For the most part, your pool will let you know when it’s time to replace your liner. Watch out for these signs, and you’ll know when your pool liner is ready to be replaced.

Your Pool Liner is Slipping Out of the Coping Track

If your liner slips out of the coping track over and over, which is designed to hold the liner in place. This is known as a liner pull, but it doesn’t always mean that the coping is the issue. Sometimes, the problem is that the vinyl is beginning to lose the stretch that it may have had when it was new.

Over time, your liner will age, resulting in more stress being placed on your coping track. If your liner becomes so tight that it starts to pull out of your coping track, you need to get your liner replaced immediately. If you don’t do the replacement soon, your coping can get damaged, and you could have to get that replaced too.

Fading Pool Liner Colors

We preface this by saying that fading colors aren’t a big problem on their own. What fading means, though, is that your pool liner is getting older and will need to be replaced in the near future. Fading colors can also tell you that the liner is beginning to fail you. Your liner will start to tear in the spots where you see fading. This tearing will often happen abruptly while you’re adding more water to your pool, or you’re stretching your pool liner back into your coping track if it had recently slipped out.

If your pool liner only lasted a couple of years before you began to see fading, you likely purchased low-quality vinyl that doesn’t have sufficient UV protection. You need strong UV protection because it influences the longevity of your pool liner.
