Deciding How Deep Your Pool Should Be

Deciding How Deep Your Pool Should Be

These are some questions to think about before you decide on the depth of your pool.

Pools have many uses, and depending on what those uses are and who is swimming in them, the dimensions of pools will change. One variable to consider during your installation is the depth it has. You want a depth that is appropriate for the activities you’ll perform and for the age of the swimmers. How does one decide on their pool’s depth, though? These are some questions to think about before you decide on the depth of your pool.

What Purpose Does the Pool Serve?

Are you using your pool to host fun pool parties, or will you be using yours for exercise and swimming laps? Pools that are used for fun should offer a three-foot depth because it’s a depth that works for adults and kids alike. You can have certain areas be up to four or five feet as well for safety purposes.  If you swim laps, five feet should be the minimum depth, and the length should be at least 25 meters.

How Will Children Be Kept Safe?

Children will grow rapidly over time, so finding an ideal height is tricky. Having a two-foot wading pool is recommended if you have toddlers. Wading pools don’t need to be very large because your children will eventually move on to greater depths.

While some wading pools are separate, you can potentially incorporate them into bigger pools by using an L-shaped design. The shorter leg is for your wading pool, while the longer one can be used for other purposes.

Will You Be Diving Into Your Pool?

If you’re diving into the water, you need to have a depth of ten feet or more. Keep in mind that your pool profile can be drastically impacted, and changes will be made to the associated expenses of your pool.

What Budget Do You Have?

Make sure you don’t overreach when deciding on a swimming pool. Remember that deeper pools will need more water and more maintenance done. As the years pass, these expenses will add up, costing you several thousand more dollars.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t invest in a nice pool. We only wish to warn you of the added expenses that come with larger pools before you commit to one.
