Swimming Pool Preparation Tips for the Upcoming Spring Season

Swimming Pool Preparation Tips for the Upcoming Spring Season

We have all the basics on what it takes to get your swimming pool ready before the upcoming spring season.

Considering how cold it has been outside lately, it’s hard to believe that spring is just around the corner. But it’s true! You may not have started gearing up for the warmer months yet, but if you’re a pool owner, it’s a good time to start thinking about it. Just like other parts of your home, your swimming pool needs to be winterized and then that needs to be undone once it is no longer winter. The good news is that we have all the basics on what it takes to get your swimming pool ready before the upcoming spring season when you’ll actually want to use your pool.

Clean Your Pool Cover

First, remove any debris that may have collected on your pool cover during the winter. If water has built up, tighten the sides of the cover, then use a cover pump to remove that water. You can use your mesh net to remove any debris from your pool cover also. If you used side water bags to weigh the cover down, remove those and fold the cover in an accordion manner. Then remove it from the pool, let it dry off to the side, and pack for future use when you need to winterize your swimming pool again.

Inspect Your Pool

Take a look at the pump, skimmer basket, plugs, and any connections. If you notice damage, you may need to replace anything that isn’t functioning. Anything that seems out of the ordinary may be a good reason to contact your local pool installer and see if they have any tips or are able to send someone out to take a look for you.

Start Pool Filtration

Remove winter plugs or any tools you may have used to prevent water from freezing. Reassemble and install your pump and pool filter with the instructions, being sure to reattach any hoses that may have been removed as well.

Add Water

If water levels went down during the winter months, it’s time to refill. It’s important that you never completely empty your pool without a professional, especially underground pools, as it could potentially result in damage. While you’re at it, make sure there isn’t any structural damage.

Clean Your Swimming Pool

Use a mesh net to remove any debris that may have gotten into your swimming pool. Check water chemistry, add any necessary chemicals, and consider testing your pool’s water before use. Good luck and we’ll see you this spring!
