Don’t Have Trees Near a Swimming Pool

Why You Shouldn't Have Trees Around Your Pool

We’ll be going over why you won’t want trees nearby your swimming pool.

Having a swimming pool out in the backyard gives you a great way to enjoy your outdoor landscape. Pools provide you with a place to relax or bring over friends and family to hang out. One aspect of pools that must be taken into account is the maintenance that’s needed to keep them in good condition. As we get into the fall season, you may be thinking about the trees surrounding your landscape and how leaves can get onto your yard. If you’re installing a pool, though, you also have to consider that trees could drop leaves into your pool water. This is just one of many reasons trees are not good to have around your pool. We’ll be going over why you won’t want trees nearby your swimming pool.

Debris Gets Into Your Swimming Pool

This first point is one we briefly mentioned already, but we feel it needs emphasizing. If leaves drop from trees into your pool, they will break down in your pool water. This alters your water’s pH levels and might cause algae to grow and make your water become discolored. Other pieces of debris, like branches, can prove bothersome because they can start poking your lining or clogging up your filter.

Stop Root Growth Damage

Debris such as branches or leaves is a problem for sure, but at least it’s a visible problem. Tree roots, on the other hand, are a little more covert. They can begin expanding without you knowing, and they won’t care if a pool is trying to impede their growth. Roots could push on your pool’s sides or go beneath the pool to cause trouble. This could result in roots breaching through your lining, damaging your pool, and causing it to lose water.

Get Rid of Pesky Pests

Trees can lure many animals close to them, and if your pool is near trees, that means these animals will be nearby your pool as well. There are many problems that could result from having animals too close to your pool. For example, a squirrel could fall from a tree and be unable to get out of the water. Birds could leave droppings in your pool. Bees could build nests in nearby trees and make swimming less enjoyable. Keeping your pool at a good distance from trees keeps these pests from causing problems while you’re trying to enjoy yourself.
