Reasons That Pool Lights Can Become Dimmed

Reasons That Pool Lights Can Become Dimmed

Here are some of the reasons your pool lights could dim.

Backyard pools add another dimension of enjoyment for you and your family. They give you another exciting aspect of your yard that entices you to have social gatherings with your loved ones. One part of a pool that heightens enjoyment is the lights. Pool lights allow you to spend more time outside since you’re able to hang around your pool even after it has gotten dark outside.

However, pool lights are not invulnerable to problems, and one problem they can experience is dimming. Knowing the reason for light dimming is needed if you’re going to find a solution to the problem. Here are some of the reasons your pool lights could dim.

You Have Loose Fixtures

Lighting fixtures are common culprits for causing dimming in your pool lights. Many types of pool activities can cause your lighting fixtures to become loose or wobbly, so it’s bound to happen at some point.

Fortunately, this is a problem that is often solved easily. It could just be a matter of getting a screwdriver and getting your screws tightened. If your screws have become stripped, it’s a little more complicated because you’ll have to replace them entirely. However, replacing the screws alone isn’t enough because each has a complementary O-ring that needs to be replaced alongside the screw.

Leaky Housing

Housing gaskets and lenses help protect your pool lights because they provide a seal that is completely waterproof. The problem comes when your gasket’s heavy rubber starts getting broken down due to various pool chemicals, like chlorine. This lets water get into the housing and makes your pool lights short out. You’ll need professional help getting a problem like this resolved.

Bulbs That Burn Out

This sounds like a simple problem to correct, but it isn’t always as simple as it appears to be. New bulbs that have burnt out entirely could indicate to you that there are bigger problems at play, such as bad wiring or power surges. An electrician would be your best bet to get this kind of problem fixed.
